Let's put aside the 'bubblegum and unicorns' of the Spotify Engineering Culture videos and talk about what doesn't quite work at Spotify, and how we're trying to solve it. This is a failure/learning report intended for coaches and other change agents who need encouragement that it's always hard AND it's always possible to improve.
Joakim Sundén is a team and leadership coach at Spotify, the world's biggest music streaming service. He helps Spotify tribes (departments) and squads (delivery teams) deliver better software faster through mentoring and coaching at individual, team and organisational levels. During the last 6 years of Spotify's hyper growth he has worked with a half dozen different leadership/management teams and dozens of delivery teams in Stockholm, San Francisco, New York and Boston, to help them align and continuously improve their software delivery. In this work Joakim often draws on his experience from lean and agile methods and systems and complexity thinking. He is also the author of Kanban in Action (Manning, 2014).
