About the session

Curious on how agility can be used out with its traditional digital home?

Scottish Water has extended its agile practice to construction design. While the concrete is rigid, the multi-organisation team of over 100 people have piloted an adaptable approach as they reduce sewer discharges to urban waters. This is informing the future of our annual £1bn programme of public money that protects our environment and your health.

This session will tell the story of IUW’s agility journey in the 18 months leading up to the Lean Agile Scotland conference and share what they have learned along the way, what they've managed to achieve, what worked, and what didn't.

Participant takeaways:

  • Agile can thrive in traditional companies, in public sector, in highly regulated companies and those with a waterfall environment including construction design
  • Business agility and agile teams can be more than cross-functional, they can be cross-partnership including people from multiple companies
  • Despite the complexity of the relationships with multiple companies with their own objectives, stability can be created to ensure everyone thrives and can meet their differing objectives
  • You can use agility to help create predictability of flow to reduce the risk of disruption in the waterfall projects
  • Agility can be applied to environmental responsibility
