Barbara Mertlova

Barbara is a Senior Consultant in Service Design at Opencast Software. She has over 8 years of experience designing user centred services with clients across government, the private and the third sector.

She uses the mindset and tools of design for creating a positive change in how organisations and businesses work and think. Her focus is on enabling people, making the complex simple, and making services more inclusive, accessible, democratic, and sustainable for our planet's needs.

She is passionate about furthering the professional community in Scotland, the UK and internationally through a range of voluntary projects, including running the Virtual Design Coffee, which connects people through an informal online conversation on prominent design topics.

Emily heads up the User Centred Design capability at Opencast Software, an independent UK technology consultancy working at the heart of government, healthcare and business to make a positive difference to people’s lives - Opencast Software believe in making life better through the power of people and technology. Their vision is to make a positive impact on society through solutions that are simpler, more sustainable and fairer for all.

Before moving into a design leadership role, Emily worked in Content Design and Content Strategy across a variety of roles and sectors.

In all of these roles, what became clear was that to create the right conditions for user centred content, this often meant influencing organisation change.
