About the session

Theme: Flow

Customers experience journeys, not the org chart. They don’t care how you’ve arranged your teams, who owns which API, or what your Jira board looks like. This talk is a walk-through of what happens when you stop organising around boxes and start organising around flow that delivers value to a human being.

We’ll look at how we moved from classic silos - frontend, backend, and DevOps in silos - to stream-aligned teams that own real pieces of the journey. Teams that move beyond just coding into owning operations, customer feedback, and the whole lifecycle. Because if a team can’t change and ship something safely on its own, then it doesn’t really own it.

... and what about Platform Teams? Where do they fit into this picture, not as gatekeepers or ticket-takers but as internal product teams that reduce drag? We’ll get into techniques like demand mapping for platform teams (to help them prioritise across different streams of work), improvement katas (how do we make this a habit), operating models, and post-it-heavy workshops like Event Storming to figure out where your teams should begin and end. Because once you optimise for that, everything else starts to get easier.

Once you wrap this up into a machine, everything starts to make sense.

Participant takeaways:

  • Uncover critical gaps in your organisation's processes, decision-making, and technology choices through frontline analysis.
  • Establish a clear vision of "good" by defining operating models, principles, and workflows that drive high performance, based on real-world experience.
  • Implement proven strategies to drive change, improve situational awareness, and cultivate a generative culture focused on business value and agility.
